    '63 FI air cleaner paint

Please confirm correct black paint code for '63 steel air cleaner and "S" tube.
Also, my memory is that these were "dipped" into a paint bath vrs. sprayed. Please confirm.
    Thank you,
    G.

George, my understanding is that the S Tube was painted with the radiator support, more of a semi gloss. The cone came from an outside vendor and was typically towards a gloss black. Hope some of the FI experts chime in since I'm not and besides 63 have all types of running changes. So all I can give you is a direction to start off in.

      Thanks Alan,
Hopefully I'll get some more responses.
Sounds like the "S" tube was sprayed vrs dipped?

George, believe it was dipped - but lets hear from experts!

          George -

The "S"-tube went through the same small-parts prime system as all the other miscellaneous brackets, reinforcements, wheels, etc. We refer to it as "dip-prime", but it was actually a "Flow-Coat" system at St. Louis; the parts were hung on racks suspended from an overhead conveyor, and went through an enclosed booth that was full of nozzles (think showerheads) that sprayed from all directions. The runoff drained through floor grates into a sump, and was continuously recirculated; fully coated the parts without actually submerging them in the primer.

Corvette steel parts that were received raw and required priming were processed at the main passenger/truck plant and transported across the yard to the Corvette plant, which didn't have a prime system.

            Thanks for the info.
            What primer should I use?
Is there a source for a correct instruction label?
            Thanks again,
            G.
