    C2 Convertible Top Storage

Can anyone recommend a procedure to properly fold a C2 top to prevent excessive wrinkling and pinching between the bows. I noticed a procedure was posted on the DB last month covering a C1 top. I am getting some pinching on my new Al Knoch top and want to prevent real damage. So far setting it in the sun removes most of the wrinkles but there has to be a better way.

I read the 66 owners manual and it is not too detailed here.

    Regards,

There really shouln't be a procedure. Maybe posting a picture of the "pinching" might help some one visualize what's going on. I also have a '66 that I often keep folded up days at a time with no wrinkling issues at all.

In other words it sounds like you just drop the top without any special care for how the folds drop or where the bows are in relation to the top? Is this correct?

That's right, the only thing I do is place a towel in the window fold to minimize any scratching.

          Dave,

They sell one of those little cylinder pillows. I use one but normally keep the top up. Not sure how well they work for the creases at the sides.

But they seem to protect the rear window when the top is down.

It really comes down to whether you drive your car or just show it. I replaced my 63's top in 1976 and I drive the car. As I live in Florida, the top stays down for months at a time and I accept that some wrinkles will be there next time I put it up, which I only do when I need to. I don't think the original designers were much concerned about how perfect and taunt the top looked when used, which is what they designed it for. Something like the top on a baby carriage, i.e.ease of use and functional.

I use a rolled towel to protect the rear window. I'm familiar with the pillows but a rolled towel seems to work as well.

The other area which needs a towel (protection of some form) it the rear corner where top starts to head down (the down section has the window in it)
On the inside picture one can see how the frame wares the top, original 64 top. It will ware the outside (after 45 years)

The outside picture just shows where the ware will start, you can see how the top frame is pushing on the outside (that's a repo top)
