    Question for Joe Lucia

Hey Joe, are you from the LA area? If so are you old enough to remember Barnette Chevrolet or JD Corvette? If so maybe we crossed paths back then.
Also I found that the SB I have for one of my vette's is the special 1966 chevy II block with the oil filter mod. It is the high perf 327 and I used it with a 30-30 cam for years and couldn't have wanted more. Then re boared & ballanced along with every thing else and was going to put it in my other vette. I know now that I have to put the correct engine in my other vette and read that the chevy II block was 1964- 1967 production only and is rare.
I want it to find a home back in a chevy II and have tried to get in touch with a club but had no luck.
I think the engine I need is a 300/327 for my 63 coupe. I got the original differential along with the vin & trim tag and maybee that will give me a clue as to when it was built. I bought it wrecked W/O engine & trans back in 1971. Who knew back then that we would be #'s today. The guy put the 63 engine in his jeep and I got the rest. I also bought my 67 coupe then W/O engine & trans and watched them pull the 435 HP out and sell it. I bought that car from JD Corvette (Salvage) and they took the trim & vin tags when they did that, (looked crooked to me ). My car is a true blond with no tags. Didn't find paper on tank or under seats. But I might have thrown that away when I re did the car in 71. I did save the original AS-IS bill of sale I got then.
The good news was that the 63 was $150.00 and the 67 $550.00. Both wrer concidered total wrecks at the time.

I lived most of my life in northern California. I only lived in southern California for 3 months in 1957 when I was 10 years old. I have traveled to southern California often over the years since I have quite a bit of family in the area. I don't recall Barnette Chevrolet, at all, though. I think that JD Corvette was in Bellflower. In fact, I think they might still be there.

J&D burned down a long time ago and one of the owners died in the fire.

They advertise in the "Driveline" (page 53 in the July-August issue).

Thanks Joe I'll give them a call today and see what's up. Maybe they got the insurance and started again?

NOEL PARK bought J&D in 1986-88 era. Don't remember the exact date. He is still very active in the Corvette Hobby, and regularily races his yellow 58 or white 55 at Monterey Historic, Wine Country or San Diego vintage races here in the West. I saw him race the 55 at Monterey August 12-19, but missed seeing him in person.

He just lost his loving wife Dianna to cancer in July.

His shop phone number is 562-804-5205.

              Dom,
I have a 67 Chevy II original 327 4 speed car with a replacement engine and a friend has a 66 Chevy II and is looking for a Chevy II 327.
I have a spare Dec. 62 cast 870 Flint block that I was going to use in my November built 63 coupe, but I found an October dated block instead.
              Are you in Socal?
I have an old J&D catalog from about 1972 when I bought some parts from them. The prices for FI units and other highly desirable parts will make you cry.

Thanks for the reply's. I called yesterday and got the real scoop from Jaime one of the original employee's.
One of the original owners did die in a fire but it was in his home, not the fire at the original JD Corvette that I thought. They say he ran back in to get the cash he had hidden and didn't make it out.
The new owners bought it about 25 years ago and they are now in a new location.
As far as my vin & trim tags, he said that they did remove them back then when they sold a car that was totaled.
