    Humidity and rebuilding an engine

    Silly question, maybe.

When rebuilding an engine is there any concern about high humidity and its effects on the surfaces of the engine components during and after the rebuild process?

    I was told there is.

Absolutely. Make sure that there are no bare steel surfaces. Rust can form within hours given enough moisture.

A thin coating of oil is all that needed to avoid almost any problem.

Perspiration dripped from ones forehead onto bare cylinder walls is moderately corrosive.

There is a dandy product out there called "Blackburn's Sweat Net"................a kind of "thong" to protect your bicycle from damage due to droplets emanating from your genitalia. You can use one of these for each of your engine's 8 cylinder bores..............

Real good information for us living in Hot/humid Florida. Now I know why my bicycle is all rusty. I thought it was from being in the dark corner of my garage.

Yes humidity can shorten the life of your engine if not turned over every 6 months or so. I lived in Guam for a few years and the humidity there would rust the engine so bad as to not turn over any more in a couple of years. I don't think FL humidity is as bad as the south pacifc but it could be a factor.
