    67 4.11 rear end ID

I bought a complete pig for my car that has a 4.56 richmond gear in it, after looking at the stamping on the case, I believe it is a 67 4.11 case, the numbers are as follows

2 FB 1 3 67 W and the case is cast on the side A 3 7, the way i read it is that this is january 3rd, 1967. I have attached the pictures (if you see them it worked)
The 4.56 was too much gear for my car and I would think somebody might want this rear end for a nice 67 435 car?? The rear end was rebuilt, but it does howl at a certain speed, as i am told all richmond gears do. Any body have an idea what the value may be?, and in fact am i right on the date code.

the first number (2 i think) does not make sense to me

Code is for a 4:11 Positraction with the big block (427) engine.

The stamped DAY date may be a 5 or 8 instead of a 3. This would provide a few days between casting and finished assembly.............but I guess same day is possible??

Not certain about the 2 prefix......perhaps it would indicate that the rear was setup for the LOW GEAR ring and pinion set and carrier. The break between the LOW and HIGH was 3:70.

The value depends on what a buyer wants to pay. Typically when looking for a specific dated case expect to pay about $400, although I've found them for less. Also had corvette shops tell me they can alter cases to the date I want. I don't deal with those places.

Since this was rebuilt and sounds questionable just how well that was done, ballpark would be $500-$800 and that is high. I pick up many complete diffs( all needing rebuilding) for $200-$400. I rarely get calls for 411 or 456 diff unless I'm building a 12 bolt conversion. Too much gear for most street cars, was pretty good when gas was .35 a gallon though.

I thought the "2" prefix started much later, as in 1968 or '69 model year. Can't recall ever seeing a "1". Pic below is of a '67 3.36 posi assembled a few weeks after Jeff's; no prefix digit nor "W" (Warren) suffix.

          In comparison, I do have an early '69 3.08 posi pumpkin stamped 2_AL 10 22 68 W., carrier cast I 11 8.

As to value, these short gear diffs don't go for much on eBay, due to shipping costs; you'll get more selling locally. The Richmond gears say it's been modified -- maybe you'll get lucky finding they replaced broken internals with a low-mile 2nd design Eaton posi case, although even these 4-series are not high demand, due to lack of interest these days in 4.11 and 4.56 ratios.

thanks for the input, I dont even know if the first number i think is a 2 at all, as the bottom part does not complete the bottom of the 2. If i could get $400 for it, I would be happy, as the bearings and seals are rebuilt, it would just need a GM 4.11 gear to make it right for a correct 4.11 67 rear end.
