    Reproduction Trunk Irons

I have a 1958 Corvette that has the heavy reproduction trunk irons where the trunk doesn't stay up when it is open. Since it is being restored I don't want to keep proping it up with a broom handle. I managed to find a NOS driver side trunk iron, which I suspect is very rare, but have been unable to locate a new or used one for the passenger side. Since the car will be painted soon and I need to do something I was wondering if anyone has experience with the "thin" reproductions that Chicago Corvette sells? Do they fit and what is the finish like? The price tag is nearly $3,000.00 so they should be perfect. How about Grossmueller's? They list them but say "Call". I will attach some pictures of the NOS trunk iron. I don't know when it was made but the chrome is really nice.

you can modify the hinge mechanism so that the heavy irons will not close the trunk. insert a screw driver in the slots that are outboard of each hinge and gently bend the slotted area so as to increase friction and keep trunk lid up. mike
