    Re: times are different

i use to drive my 1960 in the winter with the wide M60s on the back. i can remember a chicago garbage truck giving me a push to get up a bridge. took it to work and it snowed so hard i was stranded at the mill for two days and the car could not be moved for a week. on the coldest days steering was almost impossible due to the king pins getting super tight. i also remember stopping at a red light and had a beautiful young lady rearend my corvette. i was more interested in the young lady than the damage to my car!

      Re: times are different

Used to come out in the morning and find six inches of snow and the locks on the doors of my 63 SWC frozen. I'd just put the key in the lock and heat it with my lighter....until the day I took my glove off to fiddle with a stubborn lighter, then grabbed the key before putting the glove back on....

It's still the old days for me. My 660 HP supercharged C6 is my daily driver, no matter what the weather.

I don't know what tires you've got on that, but this won't move in the snow....

In northern Iowa we grew up in the snow, especially living in the country. Don't know if it was the early education of 'snow drivin' but I always felt the '64 was good in the snow. Probably just the posi but I sure went a lot of places that other cars couldn't. I loved the whole deal.

Wonder how the rust is on that car???

in high school the only car i had was a 72 lt1 vert. i drove it rain or shine everyday. even parked it in a single parking space at the mall and at school.
i dont drive them with a chance of rain now and forget about a parking lot.

Only ride I had in '79 was a 65' 365 hp coupe...just let it idle back and forth to work in the dallas ice storm it would go where others couldn't. might have been the 3.36 gears.

I drove my 69 vert everywhere, everyday. Rain, snow, didn't matter that car was great. Punched it, kicked it,walked over it, left it outside bars and parties all night, those were the days. Did have rust on the LH frame rail but not a big deal. It's been sitting for years now.

Snow tires from a big Buick make the 62 snow worthy. No snows, no go.
Those vinly seats were soooo cold in the winter.

I vividly remember putting tire chains on my 67 400 Convertible while living in the Pittsburgh area in the late 60,s. It was either drive the Corvette or walk to work. Sure wasn't much room for clearance between the tires and the fenders for the chains. I guess? those were the good old days.

I bought a 58 in 1967 and it was my daily driver for six years to and from work. We get some heavy snows here in Ohio and I was able to get thru them. I have since restored the 58 and it earned the Duntov award at Lake Placid in 1996. The 58 sat in the Corvette museum for one year and now I drive it.

I learned the hard way that if you drive a car with posi on very slick winter roads that have a steep slope to the curb, you need to stay in the curb lane. If you're in the left lane, when you let out the clutch, the rear end will walk toward the curb and into the cars next to you in the curb lane. You're stuck until all the cars in the curb lane pass.
