    Joining a local Chapter

I have been an NCRS member for almost 19 years and never could find the time to join and participate in a local Chapter due to a variety of reasons. I'm thinking of joining now. Are there mandatory attendance requirements or can one participate when time permits?

    Thanks

I only belong to three chapters, so it is possible some chapters have requirements I am not aware of. That said, I have never heard of a chapter with attendance requirements. Many will work hard to have incentives in place that encourage attendance at their events, but I have always seen chapters use a carrot rather than a stick.

      Jack,
We at the Delaware Valley Chapter would love to have you as a member! Our sister club (CNJ- Central New Jersey) also has a great group of guys and girls! No required attendance, but we do love hearing about the CARS!

          Re: Joining a local Chapter

          Hi Jack,
Another good reason to belong to a local chapter is that often the events of near by chapters are listed on your chapter's calender. This allows you to consider a one or two day trip to attend a close by chapter's meet or tech session. The members in New Jersey often attend some of the Mason Dixon chapter's events since it's a quick trip south on rt. 95.
This gives you some options as to what you'd like to do and also bolsters attendance at chapter events.
          Regards,
          Alan

By not belonging to a local chapter, you have missed one of the best benefits of belonging to NCRS. Fellowship, lots of events to get together, etc. Join and enjoy.

FUN IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT! SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT.

I go for the fellowship with old friends and to meet new friends. Life is too short not to have fun! It is very obvious I am growing old, but I refuse to grow up!

Based on the colors and font sizes in the last message, you still have room to grow up! I do these with my grandaughter! This is fun!

                      Re: Joining a local Chapter

As others have indicated joining and getting active at the Chapter level is one of the GREAT features of NCRS. There, you'll find folks in your neck of the woods who've been there, done that, gotten the T-shirt.

What better way to help restore/maintain 'baby' than with the help of locals who can tell you who does what, has what, in your locale that's NOT a rip off! You can also expect a lending hand in terms of tools & parts for this/that chore along with savvy advice.

Yes, if you've joined NCRS at the National level and NOT sought to become a Chapter member, you're probably missing 50% of the potential benefits of club membership. BUT, joining AND getting active are the keywords here. It doesn't do much good if you simply take a chapter membership and don't show up to rub shoulders, get to know your fellow members and let them know you + your car...

This sounds like my post last year... these guys talked me into joining a chapter and it has been nothing but a good experience! Met some great people and had a bunch of fun at the events I've been able to attend. Give it a try!

                          Re: Joining a local Chapter

New to NCRS, the only reservation I have about joining a chapter is that my car isn't 100% original and I'm not really interested in judging. That is a fine pursuit no doubt, but I have a really great driver that I don't know how it will fit in with a legion of top flight vehicles. If I knew the emphasis was not on "who has the best original car" it would be easier to join. Any thoughts appreciated...

                            Re: Joining a local Chapter

Gary -- not everyone has a "Top Flight" Corvette, nor does everyone obsess over the quality of their car. That said one would be foolish to attempt to characterize everyone in NCRS who belongs to a chapter. There is a chance you will meet some people whom you may not chose to "hang" with, but I would bet you will meet many more you will enjoy. After all this organization is large enough to have a cross section of the population that includes a wide range of people. You will get out of a chapter, or the national organization for that matter, what you put in to it. If one goes to a meeting with a positive attitude eager to meet people one will have fun. If one is out of sorts and the glass is half empty -- well it probably won't be much fun. We are a car club whose members share the common experience of owning a Corvette, not a therapy group (At least we are not designed to be a therapy group. ), so there are no guaranteed results. Even in a therapy group there are no guarantees.

Ok guy's. I sent my check off to the CNJ Chapter. I just wanted you folks to know, I have attended a Chapter and a Regional event in the past where I Top Flight'ed two different cars. A previous business commitment had me tied up on alternate weekends for years. I recently closed that out. I look forward to attending the Chapter events when I can see, share and gain new knowlege with members that I have met over the years.
