Need and want are two different things. You might not need it to tow but I think it will be worth the money.
What's a few more hundred dollrs when towing your baby?

The sway bar definitely helps in cross wind and 18 wheeler encounters.
The weight distribution aids in keeping the trailer and tow vehicle on the same plane over bumps and dips as you still need a significant tongue weight (10%) no matter what trailer you have, to minimize trailer sway.

If you pull the trailer in a "nose down" attitude you may find tire problems because the front trailer tires carry most of the load.......so a vertically adjustable hitch is also necessary for initial setup.

I'd definitely invest in both.... especially if your tow vehicle is on the light weight side as in 1500 series pickup or SUV

I bought a Weight distribution anti sway hitch for my 24 ft trailer from Etrailer.com. It made a great difference when towing it with my Suburban. I was bringing it home after I bought it, and it was swaying all over the road. With the new hitch, it doesn't sway at all. The Etrailer web site has some good information about all types of hitches.

Would definitely recommend a weight distributing/anti-sway hitch with that length trailer. You have to be very touchy about how you adjust the tension on the anti-sway bars. You don't want to be too tight so the arms will tear up their connections. The arms need to move with slight friction. This type hitch will also keep your vehicle level while towing.

The only drawback I ever had with that type hitch was when I pulled into a deep "V" driveway at a gas station, or an arched "^"entry as well, because there are certain limits the anti-sway bars will take before they are flexed too far. Then they tear up the connections either to the hitch or the truck hitch assembly (from experience). Always pull into a level driveway entrance to eliminate this problem. My trailer was a Hillsboro aluminum and weighed about 3300 pounds. Plus, when you stop to eat, go to Cracker Barrel where there's plenty of space to park!

I own a 24' Featherlite and most definitely use the anti-sway bar with equalizer type hitch. You will appreciate when passing or being passed by larger vehicles as it makes the trailer more stable.

Hope you ordered the larger 16" wheels and axles as they are worth the extra cost. You will want a serious pick up (3/4 ton diesel preferred) to tow since weight and air resistance are always an issue. You will appreciate the Featherlite if you haul larger cars, as i often haul 4000+ lb caddys... You will be glad you spent the extra money on the Featherlite....

If money is not a problem, get yourself a Hensley Arrow tow set up, you can have your 16 year old (if you have one) tow your car while you sleep. Check them out, trailer can not jack knife, 0 sway ever and if you ever change tow cars (trucks) they will change your set up at no charge, not CHEAP I think the one we have was over 2K. Phil 8063

Take the time to adjust the tension with a full load in the trailer. I also found braking was more stable, especialy on down hill curves. I marked the chain links that worked the best. Remember to check and adjust the electric brake control each time you tow.
