    Derek,

I can't help with a paint code, but I'm confident argent silver it is not. I think it is more of a light pewter with a very slight bronze tint.

Hopefully someone here can post a good color pic of an original.

        Re: 64 Hubcap frosting color

Derek, I went round and round with this on my 64 and just could not get happy with the results. Once the hubcaps had been polished it was hard to get really good tape lines because the paint would peal back and leave a rough edge. I ended up double taping off all the areas that are to remain shinny, and then glass beading the areas to be frosted. The glass wont penetrate the masking tape if you stay back a bit with the nozzel. The results were wonderful and the car just went through regional judging with 0 deduction for the hubcaps. If you like the slightly over restored look, you could try it. It also wont wear off and could be painted later if desired to go back to original so no harm done. In fact the paint would stick better on the beaded surface. I have attached a picture of the finished product and a taped off hubcap ready to be glass beaded. The hubcaps are now one of my favorite things about the car. There is no paint on this hubcap, just the frosting effect from the glass beading.

I just refurbished my early style 64 hubcaps. Somebody on this board pointed me toward Long Island Corvette. They sell a paint specifically for 64 frosted hubcaps. I'm happy with the results although my car has never been judged. Although, I'm intrigued with Jeff's glass beading method. I never considered doing it that way. Jeff is right about the ragged edges. I taped and retaped but never could get the lines perfect.

Jeff, Jim, come on guys, did you ever think of taping a soft edge? You can fold masking tape over on itself or use the 3M Transistion tape in the following video. I've also seen Kevin Tetz with a different product, which basically acts like folded over masking tape.

You could also probably hard tape it and use an airbrush.

              Paul,
I have a second set of hubcaps that I want to restore just to have around (wall art). The transition tape looks interesting but in my mind I was thinking that a crisp line would look better. But I think I'll give it a try to see how the softer line looks. I really like the airbrush idea, I was using a rattle can which does not offer that kind of control. I've been wanting an excuse to buy one anyway. What better excuse than to restore a second set of hubcaps I don't need

                Jeff,

You can always go back and tape the soft line, hiding the paint, then clean it up with a little lacquer thinner. This will give more definition to the line.

I know that this is a lot of work, but it appears that you guys want it to look original.
