'67 Reproduction License Lamp Lens shipped in old GM NOS blue & white box?

My original license lamp lens was cracked, there is a very good reproduction available, but I didn't need it right away so I've been watching for a correct NOS example. All of the NOS GM service replacement examples I have seen over the last year or so were missing the "bumps" around the perimeter of the original lens.

Not long ago there was an auction for what appeared to be an NOS lens with the "bumps" around the outside edge, along with the white gasket and correct screws, all in a beat up old-style GM light-blue, black & white box. I received the package today. The end of the box, where the GM Group and Part number identification would normally be, is missing. There are no other part numbers or other information on the box to identify the original contents.

I think this lens is actually the current reproduction lens paired with an old box, because there is a small "CWD" logo by the screw-hole on the same end of the lens as the "5951010" lens part number. The "CWD" logo is not on my original lens, and I'm pretty sure I have seen this "CWD" logo on other reproduction parts, I just don't remember where yet.

Can anyone with a known reproduction license lens, the newer version with the correct "bumps" around the perimeter, confirm that the "CWD" logo is on the reproduction lens?

Does anyone know what "CWD" stands for, and/or what other parts have that same logo?

    Thank you,

    Scott

You might check with LIC and CC, the tech people there will propable be nice enough to tell you who CWD is - or who is making the assembly.

"One" CWD comes up as a mold company in China.

          Hi Clem,

Yes, if it was a scam, then maintaining a supply of unmarked old-style GM parts boxes would be the difficult part of running this particular scam on an ongoing basis.

I would like to give the Seller the benefit of the doubt though, and give them the opportunity to correct the situation, because with a large or regular supply of open-box items, or simple lack of knowledge, it is possible that he or she didn't know this was a reproduction lens.

I'll contact the Seller about returning the item, my experience in that regard has been mostly positive.

Thanks for the reply Ron, I would have taken your advice and called one of them if Patrick hadn't posted with his info.

Thanks very much for taking the time to look into this, Patrick. The logo is designed so that the "C" and "D" are like a mirror image on either side of the "M", and it seems I was reading it backwards through the lens. When observed from the back of the lens, the letters are raised enough to feel them, and it reads "CMD".

It's not easy to photograph, but I got a couple of good pictures after several tries. Hopefully it will help others to distinguish between the originals and the reproductions.

                CMD is Custom Mold Dynamics.
They were bought out many years ago and later became Trim Parts.
