Re: GM Documentation; T. Michaelis ad (offer) in Hemmings

I heard a story a couple of years ago that GM had thrown away old records and a GM employee got them out of the dumpster. When he discovered what he had he was supposed to put together a program like the Marty Report that is available for Fords, which provides all of the pertinent information about every car that came down the line. He was going to sell the individual reports. The talk was that many people were very upset with him because of the impact the information would have on current Corvette owners especially high $ cars.
Who knows? Good story, anyway, might slow down some of the forgers.

I can see it now..He's sitting back and chuckling over stirring the pot.

          Clem,
This is the same information (all options listed) that I have for my car as I too have the original shipper sheet.

Is this the same information that NCRS is wording to? Or is there a "different" shipper sheet? I do not understand if NCRS has the "real" shipper paper as we know it or something different. No commitment as to options listed or not.

You will not get a shipper paper like Clem Posted. You will get original selling dealer.

I got a report long ago from NICB and it listed Date of build, dealer zone and code, invoice number, date of invoice.

            That's it.

The information offered by NCRS is different, you will get the delivery dealer, delivery dealer address, dealer zone and code and the prodcution date.

The information NCRS has is not what many of you refer to as the "Corvette Shipper" it is as stated in the announcement the “Corvette Shipping Data Report.” As stated in the anouncement.

“The first service is the CORVETTE SHIPPING DATA REPORT. The information consists of the dealer code, dealer name, dealer address and the date the car was produced. The good news is this should allow you to find the original dealer where your Corvette was sold and possibly open the door to finding more information about your Corvette. A letter containing the information you request will be mailed to your NCRS address on record.”

“The second service is the CORVETTE DOCUMENT VALIDATION. NCRS will compare any of your GM documents to the GM records contained in the Shipping Report and if verification can be achieved, will establish the authenticity of your factory documents. Unfortunately, the shipping report does not contain the vehicle options. A letter containing the information you request will be mailed to your NCRS address on record.”

Thanks Roy for clearing up option no. 1.
So should we assume there is something in those shipping records you are not giving out in option No 1 that can be used to pick out fake docs? And it is being held close to the vest, so to speak, to keep from making it possible for the fakers to get it right?
Thanks to those involved for making this possible.

I would think if the info is like what I got long ago, the zone and dealer code data base can sure be filled in a ton !

Mine showd the zone and dealer code.

mrs clem was a title clerk and office manager at the dealership and after 10 years they dumped all the records and it was a small dealership so i can't imagine how much paper work a big dealer would have to store because there were no computers back then. i have our stuff because she pulled it all before the dump.

I do know the dealer codes and zones are included in what NICB has.

I am going out on a limb and suggest from another post there is another important reference number they will not be giving us. Here is a response from JohnZ to another post about a number on the upper right of his tank sticker.

"That's the "Ident Number" (also seen at the top section on the tank sticker and Car Shipper); it was assigned by the plant when they accepted the dealer order for production, and was used to track the unit in the Production Control system prior to the VIN being assigned when the car was actually built.

You hardly ever see it on a reproduction window sticker, as you need the original paperwork to know what the number is."

                          Bingo.

NCRS could generate more repeat revenue by "holding" the original doc's are the are, providing a copy of that doc for a price, and then, due to the isse with the fake's, do as PHS does, people that want verification send ina check to NCRS.

Great duplicatable revenue stream each time a car is sold.

That "Ident #" is listed on the NICB reports.

Sorry, but I have all of the documents. As a child of four can plainly see, they have been hermetically sealed in envelopes and kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under Funk and Wagnall's porch. No one knows the contents of these envelopes, but I will ascertain the original configuration of any vehicle in a divine and mystical way, having never before seen the vehicle in question.
