Re: GM Documentation; T. Michaelis ad (offer) in Hemmings

This thread is so good! Addresses everything, anything but the questions that first came up - NCRS directors being straightforward with what they have, where it came from, and any other pertient questions?

Given that - the specualtion is fantastic so, from the last post...

Any employee doing such would be a participant in the crime, if there was a crime committed. "He made me do it" generally don't hold up in a court of law. On the animosity, generally opinions vary don't they? My guess with my data set that could be different that others is he smells a huge plie of money and has the investment capital required to make the down payment.

Question is...how much are you willing to pay for your cars' full complete documentation?

This issue pops up every couple of years, and generates conspiracy theories not unlike those in July, 1969, that claimed the Moon Landing was faked on a Hollywood sound stage.
There is a well known Tucker car collector in Alexandria, Va.

He was able to save 36,000 Tucker Blueprints from being trashed. Now just imagine the overwhelming amount of data involved in making Corvettes over the years.

There were only two GM employees at Boyers PA Vital Records Retention facility, a supervisor and a clerk.

In 1992 I personally searched all the files at the Boyers facility for ANY GM historical documents that might contain Build type data. That search did not result in ANY said documents. The Boyers facility was what we called a VITAL RECORED retention site and did not normally house run of the mill data.

A few years later, GM Legal Staff directed the closure of that retention facility and asked me to verify that there was not any critical data that GM should retain. I did and the end result was a directive to the supervisor to DESTROY ALL documents at his location and close that GM facility. I did not personally witness the destruction of the files, but was in contact the supervisor and his methods of destroying the files. If

          1. Proteam has been in business for how long? 20+ years is my guess, I don't know "Terry" and have never dealt with Proteam.

          2. Proteam has probably employed hundreds of technicians over those years.

          3. Said employees would certainly have knowledge of Proteam counterfeits and likely realize the dollar value of their knowledge via litigation.

Question 1: Have any Proteam employees stepped forward to reap the rewards of their knowledge?

Question 2: Where does the animosity towards Proteam come from?
I've read the entire thread again and your post is the only one mentioning "Proteam". Comments from me are generic and applicable to any business profiting from bogus made-up cars. Pooled together, I'll bet the collective "insurance fund" would easily exceed the $1M purchase offer with room for additional profit by the new document "broker".

For the record, I think/hope there is a remote possibility that the information is out there. Companies didn't typically store paper copies of documents in the time frame of interest here...these were put on microfiche by college interns during the summer.

My fingers are crossed that the build info will surface someday and fall into the hands of somebody we can trust. Be sure that with copies of original docs as a foundation, build sheets with "enhanced" option listings could soon follow.

          Ain't this fun ???

Surely I don't need to mention that the whole thread is based on the ad placed by the owner (I guess) of Proteam and therefore I am not the first to refer to that organization?

I would say any records to be found will come from maybe the trucking company(anchor motor freight) that delivered them from the factory
or maybe the banks that floor planned them or maybe the insurance company that insured them till they were sold.Or maybe not...

Novel concept - why don't those "Magi with The Force be with them" just tell us where these records came from.

Don't worry, the mid-year documents were transferred to microfiche, then later scanned into Excel. This is a genuine EDS photo of the only known copy of those files, being held in EDS's most secure storage....

Maybe TM is on a fishing expedition. Casting a line to see who bites. The advertisement is relatively cheap for him. He also got a bunch of Corvette people talking about him, and his company. Maybe that was the real goal.
