    59 Driver Side Door

I have some damage on the inside of my 59 driver side door that I will be repairing. I noticed that the driver side door has a small square pocket near the inside door handle. this pocket is not in the pasenger side door.
Does anybody know what this pocket is for?

Thanks Paul. I had a feeling that is what the pocket is for.

I have to gently disagree with Paul--the power window switch in my 2-owner 59 #6640 is considerably more forward on the door panel and door than the pocket that you show. On mine, the rear edge of the power window switch is a full 9" in front of the white ball door opener. The power window switch is above, and slightly to the FRONT of the car from where the manual window crank shaft stcks through the door.

My '59 has no such pocket on the driver's door.

The pocket location is correct for a '58. So it's probably a '58 door. My '60 had pockets also but they were much further forward like Mike describes. If you look in this picture you can see the location of the driver's side switch on my '58 which is where the pocket is. I have some pictures of the bare door at home if you're interested.

              Roger,

Here's a pic of my '58 door. It's an original power window car and the pocket is where your pic shows it. The red door is a '62 from ebay. Notice that the pocket is toward the front of the door. My '60 was like that door.

              Hope this helps,

              Ted

Thanks Ted. My passenger side door has the pocket in the same location as the 62 door.
