    1957 1110906 Distributor Vacuum Advance ?

I research here and found this thread:

    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...vance&uid=6654

The new JG has no detailed info. Does this look like a 1116125 VA?

It has a number "17" stamped on it, which could I assume is the pull spec
There are no other numbers on it when on the distributor.

    Thanks,
    Rich

Yes, it does look like a GM #1116125. However, there were other vacuum controls that looked exactly like a GM #1116125. My expectation would be that somewhere on it, perhaps not visible with the unit installed on the distributor, there is a stamping that in some way identifies it as a GM #1116125 (or, something else).

NICE 4520 unit Rick. I just sent your photo file to KEN KAYSER, kwkvette57@aol.com, (810) 691-4723. He has tons of history on these early units and has written a great book described here :http://www.tachometerpress.com/

Richard, Not to be critical, but your photo's seem to show a "dual point"
fixed breaker plate with 2 sets of points. All of my recollections of "906" dists had single point moveable breaker plates. Yours looks like a "905" plate, solid mount & will not operate with a vacuum unit. If you need a "906" breaker plate, drop me a line. Probably have one in the old dist junk. Barry Holmes #940

Hi Barry, I'm glad you noticed..........

This belongs to a friend and someone asked about the vacuum advance part#. I don't know anything about these early FI distributors so this is good info. I didn't realize it should only have one point set, and I bet my friend didn't realize either. I'll tell him about it. Thanks for the information.

            Re: 1957 1110906 Distributor Vacuum Advance ?

My very first Chevy V8 (a 55 that I put in a 50 Chevy back in 1956) had a single point distributor with a vacuum advance (which I still have). When I got it running, it would cutout and completely go out of time when I reved it up. Turned out it was the point plate tipping and I temporarily curred it by disconnecting the vacuum advance. Could be that was a common problem with those early distributors, and was cause for the owners to change to the solid plate.

In your friends case, the person who changed it out probably left the VAC can on to plug the hole only as the solid plate did not need the VAC to hold the plate still, as was the case with my temporary fix.

            Interesting.

Stu, A likely scenario. Who knows why these things happened. I find myself wondering what future owners will be thinking of when they see what we have all done to these cars here in the present time.
