    D-409 rotor

Anybody know where I can buy a D-409 rotor(one with the longer tip) or an Accel or other brand that has this longer tip as opposed to the shorter service replacement ones? Also, how many think this is really necessary for getting to redline in the higher performance engines such as an L79?This was in a Restorer article by Bill Culpepper but I hadn't heard this before.
    Thanks

I use the standard Delco cao & rotor, and Accel 32oz points in my 67 L79, I'm good to 6000 rpms. What problems are you having?

        Re: D-409 rotor

Was missing at 5K and up-thought I had an ignition related problem. Turned out to be low secondary float. Pulls to redline almost before I can shift now with sidepipes in full song. Guess I won't get the pleasure of changing plugs in an AC car with attending bloodying my hands and cussing.
        Thanks anyway

www.kandbcorvetteproducts is selling a repro early type d-409 rotor that has the longer tang. I bought a few of them. Part number 1852722KB. Whether it actually gets you to higher RPM or not, I don't know

          best,

I had a huge stack of them for Corvette Carlisle. The vultures bought them all. You know who you are.

Meanwhile unless you are dyno crazy and a drag racer the other rotor will work just fine. Better as we have used about a 1000 of them at least.
Restored way over a 1000 Fi's and all those distributors got the shot tip and never got a complaint.
But I do believe Bill Cluppers article so if you can get the ones with the longer tip go for it. Whew!!!! Good thing I added the last line.

Wait to Clupper gets on. Big trouble.

K & B Secial Products has an advertisement for the long tang rotor on page 55 in the September October issue of the Driveline.

Yep, see my post. I bought them and they do have the long tab.

                  Re: D-409 rotor

Per my testing and actual measurements as reported in the "restorer" article NONE of the commercially available "high Performance" brands meet the D-409 specs, ACCELL, nor ANY od the "high perf" outfits. (I bought then them from Jegs, Summit, mallory, all made to the D409R spec rather than the original design.

                    William,
Since you are the authority, could you take a look at one of the aforementioned new repros advertised in the current Driveline said to have the long tab and let us know if you think it's worthy?

                      Re: D-409 rotor

I'm afraid it's not a "eyeball" measurement, it requires one to be "in hand" and a reference Part for comparision. I'm not investing an any more "Test" units as I have a sufficient supply of "goodguys" for my needs, but if someone wanted to send one, I'd be glad to take a look at it. If you have an old original D-409 in well used condition using it for comparision would quickly tell you if the "new" reproduction meets the original's specs or not.

                        Re: D-409 rotor

As far as Accel rotors the longer tang ones are 1 inch in length from the bend to the end.The longer ones have a natural brass finish and the button portion is bigger.

The short ones are made in Canada and the tang is black coated and measure 15/16 inches from the bend to the end of the tang.
