    shimming rt. engine mount

In my 1962 Assembly Manual on pages B106 and 107, is a note that suggests measuring the distance beween the engine frame bracket upper supports, and using shim part #3711744, on the right mount, to achieve a distance between the supports of 21.92, +-.03, when installing the engine.
The notes give the idea that the factory had an engine locator tool.
Ideas or comments would be appreciated.

Ken....We recently installed our rebuilt engine on our restored 62 rolling chassis...We didn't have any difficulty achieving the specified mtg. dimension by just using a tape measure.

We sandwhiched 2 flat washers on each mrg bolt between the frame rail mtg. bracket and and the right engine mtg. bracket

That's correct. The plant used a spring-loaded "pogo stick" tool that nested on the front of the frame and measured the width between the inboard sides of the welded frame rail engine mount brackets; its reading told them how many shims were required.

Jerry and John, I will try to find a measuring tool that gives an accurate reading. I appreciate the help.

        Thanks,

        Ken
