    '72 LS-5 dipstick tube finish?

I just recieved a new (repro) dipstick tube and was wondering about the finish. It is shiny and "silvery". It appears to be zinc plated. Is this correct or should it be raw bare steel?

Also, What about the dipstick tube handle?

    Thanks!

Lynn, the original tubes were tin plated, not painted and the dip stick was natural 72 big blocks had a red tip on end of handle.

Ironically I believe that is what the TIM&JG says. HHHMMM!!!

BTW: If you want to tart up your engine compartment a bit you can rub the tin plating off without too much trouble. In the cases I have seen you will find copper plating underneath. That copper stick makes a striking contrast to the rest of the engine accouterments.

Seems I read too fast. I got home and had to leave right away but had to open my box of new toys and look before I left. I was pretty sure that the tube was supopsed to be natural. I guess "Knowing" something before a little research can scew reality. Thanks anyway!!
