What came first on engine Blackout

Having rubbed through some areas of the firewall during a clean up, I see traces of the color of the car. Was the body painted first and then blacked out?

    This is a 71.

    Ken -

Yes. The engine compartment blackout operation was performed last, after the color coat was sprayed and baked.

      Hi Ken,
Here's a couple of pictures illustrating John's black-out sequence, and also what you're finding. This was an original paint car
I started wiping the black-out with a rag that had some lacquer thinner on it and the red appeared.
      Regards,
      Alan

I retrieved these pictures from an earlier post

        Hi John, Allen:

Thanks for the replies. Allen your pictures illustrate what John stated very clearly. I have posted a picture of what I was referring to.

I am not sure if I should try to paint it or just leave it as it is. I lean toward leaving it alone. I don't even know if it is considered during judging?

        Condition points perhaps?

        Thank you both.

            Hi Ken,
I agree with Patrick that the thin black-out is pretty typical.
Here's a picture I took at this year's Convention that shows the body color coming through in the same general area of the firewall on this car, as your picture.
I would leave it as it is.
            Regards,
            Alan
