What are you examining trim tags with, TOOLS??

I have been to Al Grennings seminars, purchased his book and feel somewhat able to determine trim tag deviations.
I have a $20 loupe, that I find hard to use, do I need a better quality or is that the nature of the loupe.
I also use a pocket camera with a 3x optical and 8x digital magnification, that I usually rely on.
The problem I have is confirming the letters in the tag words "trim", "chevrolet", the small letters I am not able to magnify large enough to see the abberations as explained in the book.
Anyone have a better camera, loupe or another means of magnification you are using? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many of us use the same tool we carry to look at stamp pads. It's a monocular magnifier made for close-up work. Think of a binocular but you only have one of the "pods", and it's focused for objects 12-36 inches away.

You can buy one under the "Broach Buster" name through the Driveline, but you can also find the same sort of thing online much less expensive. I bought several of them a few years back and sold them to NCRS friends at cost.

I have a broach buster, it does not work as well as a camera on the trim tags. It is good for engine stamp pads though.

You may need one that can focus closer. I don't own the one sold as the "Broach Buster" so I can't comment on that particular model. Mine is a Selsi "extra short focus" 6x16, 9.5 degree FOV.

Digital cameras with Macro capabilites are cheap. Easy enough to take a pic and zoom in right there on the screen without ever using your computer.
