As a 2 star 1972 original owner I like to relate my experience in this process.
1. I had engine work done on car with few other parts changed. It was rather
interesting that one of the judges for that area was a fellow local NCRS
member who stated "with a few corrected items your engine compartment
would have passed star award." That judge was very familiar with this car.
I didn't expect to pass engine compartment, however I got the impression
that this judge looked long and hard before passing each item. Almost like
when in doubt it won't pass.
2. It got even more interesting when paint was judged. This same judge
made it a point that I failed paint, even after team leader had passed
the car. Eventually paint passed .....Along with interior.
3.I expected 2 stars and thats what the car was awarded.
4. In your question about bowtie or not, I feel each car and owner has to
make this decision versus enjoying the car until it can be judged at
the National Convention--within transportation ability.
For me I said make it sound and bowtie whats left 2 years later.
5. I still don't understand what is told to owner RIGHT AFTER CAR IS
JUDGED. Anything ? This area of judging is a very vague process..

Just for clarity are you relating experience in Flight Judging or Star/Bowtie Judging? Comment #1 about 'correcting some parts in the engine area' sounds more like a comment more appropriate to Flight Judging.
