Last weekend I was in the Buffalo, NY area. Daughter and son-in-law live there. We stopped at a local gas station to fuel up his car and off the side, ganged with the kerosene pump, was a pump with 108 octane leaded gas. $9.00 per gallon, but I didn't think you could buy this stuff anymore. There is a local speedway nearby, and I am thinking that it is there to service the track. The track runs a sportsman stock car class that runs 30* small blocks. Anyone seen this gas before? -Dan-

Re: Leaded Gas
There is a Gas City station on the outskirts of Joliet Illinois that sells 100+ octane, although I think it is no lead. The pumps have short hoses so they can not reach a vehicle. Fill you gas can only, and it says "for off road use only." It too is near a race track. I haven't been by there lately to see the price.Terry- Top

Re: Leaded Gas
Ah.........yes, the good old days. I can fondly remember when Sunoco 260 was 37 cents a gallon. But............we've been spoiled over the years and as Americans continue to be today.- Top

I can tell you that it's illegal to use leaded fuel in a car operated on the street. It does not matter what state, either---it's federal law.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

William------
If you had bought a gallon of gasoline in 1965 for $0.37/gallon, on an inflation-adjusted basis, that would be the same as $2.52 today. So, a gallon of gas today does not really cost that much more than it did in 1965, even here in California where it costs more than it does in most of the rest of the country. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Leaded Gas
There is a gas station on Long Island, NY that sells Sunoco leaded racing fuel, 111 octane, for $9.00 per gallon. You can not pump the stuff into your corvette so I show up with 5 gallon containers and fill them up. I use the gas for my "66 L-72, 5 gallons of the racing fuel and top it off with 93 pump octane. The racing fuel is not cheap butthe car sure likes it!- Top

Re: Leaded Gas
Hey Joe L.,
I'm not suggesting that today's gas price isn't (amazingly) a good bargin. But I do miss that Sunoco 260 and especially the sound of a high compression small block Chevrolet (302 or 327) at idle from even 100 feet away. You know what engine is under the hood from at least that far away without having to ask! There is no other engine sound to compare with it.........all the big blocks in the world be damned.- Top

Re: Leaded Gas
In my garage, Sunoco 260 is still 42.9 cents a gallon.

Re: Leaded Gas
Yes, that leaded gas is some bad stuff. I couldn't begin to count the times I got a mouthful of that juice or used it to wash the really bad grease off my hands. And you know, I still am waiting for all the bad effects to kick in. Perhaps I will self immolate in my coffin and turn to lead.

Re: Leaded Gas
Woooowww......I am impressed, John. I need to get right out to my garage and see what I can do to keep up with the Joneses, errr... Hinckleys. And that is not meant to be sarcastic.....just honest. Your garage belongs in a museum.......and I won't say (admit) where mine belongs.
