    1963 insulation

Does a 63 have the upper jute firewall insulation like the 64-67 models? Im not talking about the black hardback with the plugs, but the two pieces above that. It is just plain jute that glues in.

    thanks

    Jeremy,

I know for a fact the early cars did not have the jute under the dash. Depending on you car serial #, I would wait and see if someone with a late 63 car reports.

There were many changes with the 63, even the black backed insulation by the pedals is different early to late.

Good question. The new JG sez "..very early cars may not have insulation.." Looking at the Assembly Manual, the sheet that has the dash mats (UPC 1, sheet B12.00), doesn't show the glued-on upper insulation, and that sheet shows its last change date as 5-63. Looks like no upper insulation could go FAR beyond "very early cars".

I don't see any on my early July build, but then I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly. I know what the material looks like anyway and I've been under the dash as best I could many times including today. Can you tell me what teltale signs I should look for and where?

            Stu -

The fuzzy stuff is glued to the back of the plenum panel (same panel the wiper transmissions are attached to), above the top edge of the hard-faced black dash mat; see photo below.

                  Hi Tim,

Just curious but what is the difference between early and late insulation in '63 and do you know when the changeover occurred?

                    Sydney,

I can't remember exactly what the difference is, the info may be in the archives if you want to check there. I will check my car to see what jogs my memory and get back to you.
