    Big Block starter

Guys I finally got the correct starter for my 67 Big block at Carlisle this year. The one that I pulled out was part #1108748 date code 4H 6 2 . I can't find that starter in any of my reference books. What is its original application?? I don't believe it is even a Corvette starter, what the heck was it for?

I can't find a specific application for it. However, it was a starter that was first used for the 1974-75 period and the manufacturing date on it confirms that (manufactured August 6, 1974). Originally, it was a series 10MT high torque starter with an aluminum 2 staggered pattern long bolt nose. So, it was almost certainly used for some THM application. Most likely, it was a starter used for some light duty or medium duty truck application and that's why I can't find it. I can't find any passenger car application for it.

Most likely, this starter has been through a commercial rebuilding operation and all that's left of the original starter is the frame (the part with the numbers on it). It certainly does not have its original starter nose since that nose would not work on your application.

In addition to Joe's comments, a starter with an aluminum nose and the staggered bolt pattern, CANNOT be used with a manual tranny bell housing. The alum nose is to big to fit into the starter bulge of the manual tranny bell housing, thus, you MUST use a starter with a CAST IRON nose and staggered bolt pattern.
