    New shocks for a 63

I'm ready to buy replacements shocks for my restoration project and thought I'd get some advice first. Is there a currently availible shock from Delco that will do ok in judging with a coat of paint? Suspension is purely stock.

    Thank you,
    tc

If by "do ok" you mean receive full credit, I'd say the answer is definitely no. Supposedly, partial credit is to be given if the shocks are Delco brand. However, the only way these shocks are branded Delco is with the large, gaudy "Delco" labels affixed to them. These have to be removed if the shocks are to be painted and once removed, they cannot be re-applied (assuming that one would even want to reapply them).

I guess one could leave them as-is and get the partial credit assigned to using Delco brand shocks, since the branding would be evident with the labels. However, I don't really think this was the intent when the judging allowance for Delco shocks was created. While the shocks are BRANDED Delco, they are actually manufactured by Monroe or Gabriel and shorn of their labels are identical to those aftermarket shocks.

Na, by "do OK" I mean get at least 10% of originallity points so i can get all of the condition points. If the configuration is kinda sorta close, the installation, completeness, and finish (painted correct color) should get be to where I'd like to end up.

Thanks for the recommendation, and you can bet I'll lose those stinkin' decals.

Hi Tracy, after Flight Judging I set my car up for weekend driving by putting a set of Bilsteins and radials on it. OH MY GOD it was like a new car , a remarkable leap in handling! Just an FYI. Enjoy the Flight Judging in the mean time!
