    Rechroming exterior mirror?

Is it worth to rechrome my exterior mirror? It is somewhat pitted. I would think it would only get a 1 point deduct right now in judging.

Any idea on cost to rechrome the mirror?

Is it an early 1967 bow-tie mirror (up to approximately VIN #08000), or later plain-back mirror?

      Chris,

I have my C1 exterior mirror at the platers now. The mirror needed to come completely apart. Cost wise, no, I don't think it is worth it. It is costing me plenty for the plating and I still need to supply glass.

Scott, it's an early bowtie mirror for 67.

That makes the decision more difficult. If it was a plain-back mirror, you could get an older genuine GM (Donnally or Ajax) NOS example. Just put in the correct-date glass.

For the bowtie mirror, finding an NOS example may take a while, otherwise re-chrome the original or go with the reproduction. I have read that the reproductions are really very good, and get no deduct. It sounds like yours is nice though - if you think it would only get a 1-point hit, I'd probably leave it as is.

According to the JG, the bowtie mirrors were used up to "approximately VIN #8,000" at which point both plain and bowtie mirrors are okay (plain-back only after "approximately serial #10500 through the end of 1967 production"). The car I'm working on is 07873, I think that's about two assembly-line days short of 8,000.
