    67 Tri Pwer running rich

Just rebuilt our 435 motor and now have a very rich condition. I don't see any fuel but after letting it sit in the enclosed garage, the smell of gas will knock you over.

The carbs were fine before the rebuild and were taken of the intake to detail it. Otherwise they were not touched. The car idles a bit rough (plugs are getting black) but seemd to run ok at higher rpm's

Can anyone suggest the most probable cause? Thanks

I'm sure others with more carb experience will chime in, but my experience with my 68 L71 was about the same when I finally bit the bullet and had the carbs rebuilt. Other than the usual parts, there was slight warping which was fixed and some corrosion. The car runs like new and there is NO gas smell.

From what I have read here, a backfire thru the carb on start could damage the power valve. Also, overtight mounting bolts can warp the base.

Are you sure the secondaries are not leaking? I had that problem, too.

Needle(s) and seat(s) were disturbed when "detailed". Either damaged or dirt in float bowl(s). Check your float levels on all three.
