    Bolt On knock offs

    Hello everyone,
I'm going to purchase a set of bolt on style knock off wheels
for my 1965 coupe. What brand would be the most correct
and best quality? Also I would be purchasing a set of radials
with either white walls or goldlines, any recommendations there?
    Thanks,
    Karl

    Karl,

I purchased a set for my 65 several years ago from Corvette America. They have newly redesigned wheels and are offering a $200 discount. Other vendors will have these wheels as well. As for the tires, I'd go with Goodyear or other appropriate manufacture for your car. Have fun with your purchase and with your car.

I just ordered a set of Firestone FR380 white walls in the 205R75/15 size from Tires Easy. However, the white walls are only about 3/4" wide, whereas 1" is the "correct" width. If you have the car judged, any radial will get a deduction, but the correct white wall width with an OEM brand (such as Firestone) is a slightly smaller deduction. In that case, you should look at the radials offered by Diamond Back; they modify the FR380s (and similar tires from other manufacturers) to have the correct white wall width or to add gold lines. However, the cost for me would have been about $550 more for the modification for a set of four, so I ended up going with the stock Firestones.

There's no such thing as a "bolt-on, knock-off wheel". As far as the wheel goes, it's either a bolt-on OR a knock-off. It cannot be both. If you mean a knock-off wheel WITH A BOLT-ON ADAPTER, that's different 1963-66 Corvette optional aluminum wheels were of this type. 1967 Corvettes used bolt-on optional aluminum wheels.

            Joe -

He's referring to the "direct-bolt" KO wheels made by Corvette America, where the wheels actually bolt to the hubs in the conventional manner, but have the cones and KO spinners that thread on as cosmetic rather than functional spinners; once installed, they look identical to the "knock-off" wheels.

OK, I was not aware of those. So, what they are is a bolt-on wheel that looks like a knock-off wheel.

Exactly. There has been at least one re-design in recent years, certainly in the case of the Corvette America wheels, and possibly also a redesign in the primary competing product, the wheels offered by America's Finest Corvettes.

I have a set of these wheels on my 63 Coupe. They are terrific! The look is great as well as the fit and finish. Mike has done a great job on these wheels and is a great guy to work with....
