That's probably as good as political poll numbers anyway. Of the many that are out there, I have found a much fewer number have their original drivetrains. When I was shopping for an L71, I found several with NOMs, like 454s, and L68s stuck into original L71 shells.

Regarding the relationship between Vin numbers and Job numbers, I would like to add a couple of data points. I have a 1967 L71 Canada car with the real original engine, the tank sticker and the strange Canada protecto-plate. Unlike the case in the U.S., GM Canada will give you (at least they would in 1989) a shipping importation sheet that includes the options of your car and all the other cars shipped to Canada that month - so I have GM Canada documentation that proves the tank sticker is original.

The Vin number of the car is 194677S114319 and the number 317 is hand written on the tank sticker.

My other car is a 1970 LT-1 that I have owned since 1972 also with full documentation.

Its Vin is 194370S414297, and the number 297 is hand written on the tank sticker in the same location as the number written on the 67 tank sticker. In addition to that, the number 172 is hand written on the top of the 1970 tank sticker between the words "Chevrolet Motor Division" and "Corvette Order Copy." The hand writing appears to be different for the two numbers.

That's interesting. My '67 tank sticker (verified as authentic) has a hand written number on it down the right side of the options list, about half way down. This three digit number is several hundred off from my VIN's last three digits. I suspect it had nothing at all do do with VINs.

As far as full drivetrain (engine, tranny, and rear end), I would guess maybe 25% or less. Just too many years, too many owners with too heavy a right foot.

              Hi Manuel,
Where are you in OZ? I have a '69 TRI and live in Brisbane.
              Cheers, Graeme.
