    C1 270HP carbs

I have a 1960 engine code CU which should be the 270hp engine. Sometime in its past lift the carbs where changed out to the 245hp versions. I just had these restored by Bob Kunz and they look great (see photos).

I see a set of 270HP carbs for sale (no manifold) for $2,500. I would probably have them restored, so there is another $750-$850. So would have $3,250 or so in them.

For points, is it worth it to go this route? Also, what is a ballpark of what a pair of just restored 245HP (2626S and 2627S) worth in the market?

    Thanks,
    Don Harris

    245HP / 270HP carb numbers

I did some quick research and found the following on productions numbers. This seems to make the set of 245HP carbs more rare than the 270HP set. Is this correct?

    ............245..... 270
    1958....2,436.... 978
    1959....1,417...1,846
    1960....1,211...2,364
    1961....1,175...2,827
    TOTAL..6,239...8,015

be careful to check casting numbers on all 3 sections of the 270hp carbs. i ran into many clones where the bases were wrong..
i would say a correct setup with the accessories you show restored would be around $4k.

        Looking for more help please

Surely someone out there has some good advice whether the expense of going after the 270hp carbs will be worth it. I know it is subjective, but I need more input.

I looked at the scoring sheets and Carbs are 40 points for Originality and 20 points for Condition.

So, Will I loose all 40 points for having the 245 carbs on a 270 stamped engine?

Will I get full Condition points since these are freshly restored and look new, even though they are 245 carbs?

        Some advice please

a far as visual differences between 245's and 270's all we're looking at is the length of the couterwieght lever right ? i can't see why you would loose more than a couple of points per carb, if that, there are alot of components on a carb and if those are the only things wrong i can't see even a total hard ass judge making a full deduct.

No. You'd get a 20% deduction (8 points) for Configuration, and be eligible for full condition points.

I hope you are correct. if I loose the whole 40 points, that's a lot

There is also a difference in the venturi where the 245hp has a square cut off of the fuel tubes and the 270hp is cut at a 45 degree angle. All the casting (main body, air horn, and throttle body) are the same for both, so those are correct.

The other difference is the ID tags, the 245hp are 2626S & 2627S. The 270hp are 2613S and 2614S. When I had mine restored, we decided to but the correct 2626S/2627S tags on them as any competent judge would be able to see that they were 245hp carbs if we had put the 270hp tags.

Thanks John, this is the input I needed. Probably not worth $2,500 to chase 8 points.
