    Re: A Milestone?

I'm selfishly anticipating the next 25k posts! Thanks for those first 25k forum posts - and for taking the time to exchange emails off-line regarding the Corvettes in my garage. It's rare that I don't learn something new in each of your posts.

Joe - you're a credit to our community!

      Joe,

You are amazing! I have dealt with a lot of parts guys over the years in different trades, but never had the pleasure of finding another like you.

      Please keep your posts coming.

Congratulations Joe. You are a class act and a wealth of knowledge. We are lucky to have people like you in the hobby. If you get back to Mass I owe you a couple of 3 lb lobsters and a bucket of steamers

For those of us who have been around too long, our "Milestones" are Howard Kirsch lending the $$$ to publish the Restorer, John Amgwert's dedication to information that had never been published before and attesting to its accuracy and the leadership of Bill Clupper in the years when NCRS could very well have vanished from the scene, followed by the knowledgable, on all levels (with the possible exception of RR -watch, he'll go buy one) of Mike McCagh. It became Nirvana for car clubs, but the failure to comminicate with members-at-large is diminishing its luster on all levels.
As a member from Texas once expressed, "If you membership # is above 5000, you have no idea what this club went through to survive.". But fortunately it is probably still the best club on the planet.

                Joe,

You've been a huge asset to me and were a big part of why I joined the NCRS. I've never met a man more willing to help another. I'll never forget the first time I shook your hand. You were hang'in at the Vettehead's spot at Corvette at Carlisle... and I felt like I'd just met Elvis !

Keep'em coming man...the next 25K should get me through to the completion of my restoration...

                      Joe,

I was wondering if you could enlighten us with your resume. How does one come to know so much about all things automotive?

                              Joe------

My resume really doesn't have a lot to do with things automotive.

In high school I was in a college prep curriculum. I never took a shop class of any kind.

My college major was microbiology and my minor was chemistry. While I was in college, I worked for Safeway Stores for 4 years as a part-time food clerk and a full time food clerk for about a year thereafter.

In 1970 I went to work in the water pollution control industry as a chemist and later moved into the mostly regulatory field of industrial source control. I worked in this field for 33 years before retiring in 2003.

As far as automotive experience goes, during my last 2 years in high school, I worked as a part time "pump jockey" and mechanics helper at a Chevron service station in Hayward, California. That was my only employment in the automotive industry during my entire lifetime. The way I got that job was I happened to be at the station one day when I was about 15 with my father so he could install a new turn signal switch in his 1962 Ford Galaxy 500. The owner of the station, Tony Telecky, was a friend of my father and he let him work on his car there. While my father and Tony were shooting the bull, I installed the switch. When my father walked back to install the switch and found that I had already done it, Tony was so impressed with it that he offered me a job there on weekends.

Otherwise, everything I know has been pretty much self-taught as cars, and especially Corvettes, have been my hobby for nearly 50 years.
                              In Appreciation of John Hinckley

                                Joe,

Thanks for all the help over the years. I'll never forget that lobster/clam fest we had in Essex in 2007.

So the guys know what you look like, here's one of you a few years later at the same place and doing the lobsters again:
