    58 loose windshield at top

A very common occurance, for all these cars is soft top being installed and pulling the top frame loose frm the glass, I know hundreds have had this problem, what is your best fix for firming this up, once you loose this suction they are always loose, am not going to take the whole winshield assembly off the car and seems now that all adjustments on top are as loose as they can be. What is the best procedure to solidify this, does that top stainless come off easy enough so one can check things out and or reseel things? Thanks, Brad.

    Brad,

I've had my windshield off three times in the last year for various reasons and I can't think how the windshield surround could be loosened up enough to reseal and prevent the slipage you are encountering while on the car. If you have this problem you may want to take the windshield off to check the front tabs that mount to the body for support to see if they have broken. Maybe someone else will chime in with a solution that doesn't involve removal of the windshield. Good luck.

I believe your problem is that the windshield post tabs are broken. If it were me I would pull the windshield and have the posts repaired professionally to fix the problem once and for all. Once repaired there will be no movement in the frame at all. You can send them to many places for the repair, Paul Mazut did some for me and they have held up for years. Rich

          Hi Richard
My Windshield Tabs are proff.rebuilt so it is not the problem, but maybe they are not tightend 100% so I will take a look underneath the instrumentpanel
          Thanks for your answer.

          Regards Jorn

i've used a urethane caulking compound(between glass and weatherstrip and between weatherstrip and windshield frame. hope i never have to disassemble the critter.) on the last 3 c-1's i've restored and no seperation between the glass and weatherstrip. prior to these three c-1's i experienced similar seperation problems. mike
