1965 Console color

Was the metal console cover (with ash tray & shift pattern) painted the interior color from factory or was black used to offset interior color schemes? I have a 408 Red leather interior. Should I paint the console red or keep it black? It is not a numbers matching car but trying to keep it close.

The console should be interior color with the possible exception of the two tone interiors, I am not sure on them without looking it up. My '65 w/ red leather has a red console. Don H.

Don, Thanks for the response. In looking at some of the Corvette restoration books and they say the same thing you did. Thanks!

I can confirm that the red interior 65 had a red console. Mine did !!

The attached picture is of my 65 interior. To the best of my knowledge, this is the original paint.
