    74 A.I.R Pipe

I am trying to source a left side smog pipe for my 13K 74 LS4, The existing right side pipe has a round taper on the large diameter main tube where it reduces or crimps down on the smaller diameter end tubes. I am not 100% sure that it is the original but given the mileage I thought it would be. The repo pipes from the major suppliers appear to have a flattened style crimp in this area yet they are advertised as exact reproductions of the originals. What was the original configuration? In addition, their finish is black/brown on the repo's, was this the original finish? Cheers!

The TI&JG says the tubes were flattened on 74 LS4's.

Thanks for the reply Lyle. I checked Crane Corvettes (San Diego) web catalog and it appears that the round style crimp is a 68-71 design and the flat crimp style is for 72-74.
Do you know who makes the best or most exact copys of these smog pipes. Cheers.

I have a LH & RH AIR pipes which I purchased from the General in 1992 for my 1974 454 El Camino. I never installed these parts prior to selling truck and would sell both pipes. I suspect that pipes were common between El Camino & Corvette. PM me if interested.

        LH - 333827
        RH - 333822

Both have the "flattened" connection between main tube and outside cylinder tube.

These AIR tubes are not the same as those used on Corvettes. They will install in Corvette manifolds but the configuration of the end to which the check valve attaches is different.

Thanks for the replys Joe and Larry. Can you recomend a supplier who stocks the most exact/correct pipes from an NCRS/original perspective. Regards, Martin.

Both styles of pipe assemblies are available in reproduction from Dr. Rebuild, Paragon, and Corvette Central. I expect that the manufacturing source is the same for all. Are the current reproductions exactly as-original in every nuance of detail? I do not know since I have not compared them to originals. For that matter, I have not compared every GM piece ever made to see if all of them were exactly the same in every nuance of detail.

Give Bill Hodel a call 330 832 0871. He specializes in original corvette smog parts.

Thanks for the replys. I found an email address for Bill Hodel amongst some earlier posts, he appears to be the go to guy so I'll drop him a line.
                  Thanks again, Martin.
