Anyone interested in a major restoration project?

    Hi guys,
A classmate from high school heard about my '65 Vette and contacted me via the Internet. She told me that her mother had recently passed away and that she was now the caretaker of her father's '65 convertible. The car has been sitting unused since '95, and has been under a tarp in the back yard of their home. I'm thinking "WOW", the South Florida equivalent of a barn find! She has been living in France for many years, but was coming to the States to take care of some personal matters. I made arrangements to see the car for not only my own curiosity, but also to help her as she was considering restoring the car that she and her father loved so much. It was very exciting to remove battered tarp from the car, but I was concerned about what I would see as it has been covered outside for 15 years. As you can see from the photos attached, the car was neglected and is in need of a full body-off restoration. After explaining to her what would be involved in restoring the car, she agreed that it would be best for her to sell it to a C2 enthusiast and enjoy the restoration project via photographs & e-mail. She didn't set a selling price for the car, but I know she will be reasonable.

She told me that her father was the original owner and purchased it new, but she hasn't been able to locate any paperwork at this time. She will go to the DMV and get a duplicate title if necessary, but unfortunately that appears to be all the documentation that she will have. Of course, she can provide a notarized document attesting to the originality of the car. It has factory A/C, power brakes, and a Powerglide transmission, so I assume that the engine is either a 250 or 300 HP. If anyone is interested in the car, please send me a PM or e-mail and I will send you additional photos and get you in touch with my classmate.

    Regards,
    Roger (50141)

Wish I had the garage space to do this project.

Any thoughts on condition of the birdcage or the frame from your observations?

I'm not interested in the car, but, I am interested in a For Sale section.

                  Wouldn't it be great?

Roger, great find. As always, I am very interested. However, I just showed the pictures to "the boss". She never says no, but after 33 years of marriage I know which words mean "no". I don't think I should be adding another project to the list at this time. I need to choose my indiscretions carefully.

Another testimonial for the value of "The Club" !
No one stole her in all those years.
But that relententless Florida sun sure wrecked havoc !

There is no question that this was a very exciting find, and I am just as excited to see an NCRS member get to work on restoring her . There aren't too many barns here in South Florida, so I never expected to experience a "barn find" -- thought I would have to live vicariously through Wayne Carini . Just imagine what could have been if her father didn't buy "The Club"... now if she could only find the key !! This will certainly be a great project for the right person. Unlike Paul, I didn't need the "no" translator; my wife told me "no way Jose" as I left the house with the camera in my hand. I guess having one wife and one Vette is better than no wife and two Vettes ??

Yes nice find and good start for a project.

To restore this car I would compare it to a good thing of getting a dog for a pet from the animal shelter. You maybe saving a life and in this case you would be definitely saving a very old Corvette.

Good luck with this who ever attempts it.

Apparently The Driveline can't generate interest quickly enough. Must have something to do with the photos and the internet.
