    Differential Torque Spec's

I've looked but can't seem to find the torque specs for a 63 differential. Anyone have them?

    What I'm looking for is:
    • Ring gear to posi. unit
    • Pinion nut on spindle flange
    • Caps
    • Cover to carrier
    Thanks

Harry, ring gear bolts are 40-60 lbs

Preload on the pinion nut should be around 20-25 in. lbs, If you reused the old crush collar I would do 20 in. lbs.and be careful not to over torque. there is no specfic torque value on this nut, Its the rotation of the nut with a inch pounds torque wrench.(This is how to preload the bearings) any questions?

The last two values I filled in above are from the appendix specifications in the '63 Corvette Shop Manual.

The 63 diff spec's are the same as all iron units 63-79. I torque new ring gear bolts to 55-60 ft. Bearing caps to 60 ft/lb using new socket heads once the caps are fit to 001 rock. Pinion drag should be set between 17-20, total drag 27-30 in/lb. Use a new crush sleeve with new bearings. If you over crush it then you have to start over. Use only a National or CR pinion seal. I use the CR's.
