    Proving Grounds Test Vehicles

I have a 1970 coupe, red on red. 350 hp with factory air and 4 -speed. This wa a GM proving gorunds test vehicle. Infact, the GM proving ground decal is still on the the rear window. A GM engineer purchased the vehicle with 4,000 miles from GM.

Are there any lists or data bases that show which vehicle were proving ground test vehicles?

    Thanks for your help

That is not an official "test" vehicle ID sticker, at least in my experience. All of them I have seen had a unique engineering ID number as a part of the sticker and were not that elaborate. What you have might be an employe lot sticker to gain admittance for entrance to parking on the facility. Others from the Detroit or Phoenix area might chime in...

I would agree with this. I don't know that proving grounds cars were even identified with any kind of decals.

Test vehicles generally had a special ID sticker in the windshield with the division issued tracking number for the vehicle. Fleet cars also carried an ID so they could be tracked.

Typically any sticker would have been required to be placed on the lower left hand side of the windsheld where the guards at the entrance or anyone looking for the ID could easily see the decal/sticker.

Thank you all for your help. What you all have said, and suggested, make sense. I will try to contact the original owner to see what I can find out regarding the pupose of the sticker.

FWIW... CPC stands for Chevrolet-Pontiac-Canada group which was a major part of GM many reorganizations ago.....it's sister division was BOC or Buick-Olds-Cadillac the other was Truck Group.
