Unexpected shipping report results - long

The shipping report for my 67 came as a complete surprise. It showed it to be a car delivered in Canada and I should contacted GM Canada. I knew they had build info for Canadian delivered cars. My first thought as an owner of an undocumented BB car was what I am going to find out. It could be good or not so good, but I had to know.


When I got the GM of Canada build info it turned out to be pretty good. While not originally a 435hp car it was a BB. It came from St Louis with the following options:
Marina Blue
Leather seats
L36 390hp engine
M21 & posi
Power Windows
Power brakes

Side Exhaust
Tinted windshield
Radio
Red Stripe tires
Somewhere over the past 40 years TI and a HD suspension have been added.

Congratulations John, your shipping data report led to a lot more information (by way of Canada) than you could have hoped for if it was sold in the U.S., that's great news! Like a person with amnesia for 43 years suddenly remembering his identity, and you got ALL of it. That is very cool.

Marina blue (and Nassau blue for '65 & '66) always looks good to me. I have heard about GM Canada saving all the records and making them available, and I called GM Canada just to cross it off my list before the NCRS Shipping Data Report was announced, but yours is the first example I have heard of that actually turned up in the GM Canada database. How does GM Canada document the car's original data for you (e.g., something like the NCRS Shipping Data Report)?

Thanks for posting that, looks to be as good as a tank sticker, even more information, actually. Very interesting to see the differences in terminology for various options compared to a tank sticker, too.

I've never seen option V48 before.

Most Canadian cars had at least one specific RPO to address requirements for entry into the country.

Mine has RPO Z49 Mandatory Canadian Base Equipment Modification and RPO W84 Additional Fuel for Delivery.

These two options are my trump cards when playing the 'how rare is my car' game of multiplying one option against another.

John -- PM me your VIN; there's a 60% chance I'll be able to confirm your car's options (complete option codes, including ECL's; not the verbal stuff that George Zapora from GM Vintage Canada shows on the data sheet).

I thought it that the conversion from US to Imperial gallons is what required making up the shortfall.

Scott -- here's a photocopy of the GM Canada microfiche record of my new 1972 VIN # 8196. [I cropped the page to show only the car previous and following mine]. This was probably entered into the head office records once a month, back in the year. All GM imports were so recorded, not just Corvettes.

I'm guessing that this info is in much more detail than that available for the NCRS Shipping data report, or that other option verification report [someone will have to explain to me how that's supposed to work ].

Thanks for posting the picture Wayne, I see your VIN number, how do you interpret/decode the following groups of numbers, going from left to right in the same row as your VIN?

As I understand it, they don't have any information, at all, about the options that originally came with our cars. But if we send them whatever documentation we have about the options that we think we have (e.g., tank sticker), they will check it against records which they don't have and verify whether our documents are authentic.

Seriously, it would really help if someone would explain the other "service" in a way that makes logical sense, because as it stands, it seems to be a sort of non-sequitur.

How can anyone "verify" whether the information in your documents is authentic if they don't have any records to check against your documents?

Is it not a reasonable question?
