    C2 Convertible Top

Newbie to the group and owning a corvette! Just got a 1965 C2. Car was painted this summer. Would like to know feedback on how to store the top and not get the "line" on the paint.

Also, Do members recommend the vinyl protective film to protect the paint for future use.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Wes:

Welcome. Hopefully, someone will provide ideas. I rarely put the top up on mine but do keep a conditioner on the rubber weatherstrip and I haven't had the problem.

I've seen people use the protective film and haven't heard anything negative about it.

    Bob

I have the transparent vinyl film that several suppliers sell. However, my top fits so poorly in the back that it doesn't seem to damage the paint even without the film.

I use the vinyl film on my 63. I think it is the only way to prevent damage to the paint.

I don't think you'll find a fool proof way to keep the hard top from leaving a 'kiss' in the deck lid paint. Even when factory new, there was a subtle tell tale from the hardtop's 'foot print'.

When restored, we're using paints with slightly different formulation than the factory original lacquer. AND, we're generally laying down more coats + thicker coverage in the interest of making the resulting exterior finish look better than factory workmanship.

Taken together, these paint aspects make the deck lid slightly MORE prone to deformation from the foot print of the hard top. About all you can really do is let the paint dry THOROUGHLY before you install the hard top and use one of the vinyl deck lid protectors that come die cut to fit...
