    1967 coupe door panel fit

Hi: I have a 67 coupe which I am just finishing a complete body off restoration. I have purchased a complete interior but installing the new door panels I had a problem-they fit poorly! The contour of the panel to the metal below the wing window leaves a gap large enough to see into the door. Also, the panel is not thick enough at the window crank and there is a gap of 3/8th of an inch between panel and crank. My original panel (which is original) fits perfect in all areas of the door. Has any one had these issues and if so how did you resolve them ie another source, restore originals, modifications etc. Regards Jerry

Sounds like you have some AK panels. Get some from Corvette America, they fit perfectly.

      Jerry,

I had the same situation. I ended up stripping the covering material from the metal at the top of the door panel near the wing window and filing that metal to allow for a better fit. I got a better fit but still had the large gap near the wing window at the top. Also, getting the correct alignment of the window crank and door pull openings was a challenge.

The interesting thing was I took off an old set of Al Knoch door panels that had a great fit. Not so with the newer panels.

Douglas: You said you took off Al Knock door panels that fit good but the new ones did not fit well, were they also Al Knock door panels? Also did either of the panels fit the wing window crank properly. Thanks Jerry

          Jerry,

Botht the old set and the new set were Al Knoch. The fit of the vent window crank needed tweeking. It was close, but not as good as original.
