Re: 1953 Serial number 2?
The last paragraph states it was the second built. Hmmmm, I guess the question is that it may have been the second built of the production run, so maybe it's vin number 004? As we all have read, #1 & #2 were allegedly destroyed by Chevrolet.
A friend of mine named John "C" in NY owned A & C Chevrolet in Fort Montgomery. Since the early 1930's his Grandfather(mothers' side....."A"), and John's Dad(the son-in-law...."C") ran it. John told me he had 1953 Corvette number 002 that year. I'm a bit skeptical of that statement, even though they sold probably the most Corvettes in the Northeast according to him. They were the closest Corvette dealer to West Point and every graduation many Cadets bought one or were gifted one. I told him I want to see his paperwork on '53 #002, which he says has all sales records saved and stored in a barn in NH. BTW, I'm still waiting.
Who knows.....maybe it was number 002 at Rinke. Maybe John at A & C had it and sold it to Fred, or maybe Fred had it and sold it to John.
However, now this is the second claim to number 002 I have heard.
Who knows???
