    1960 leaf spring advice needed

My car does not have original leaf srpings. I don't have the grooves down the center.

Any good source for original dated springs ? If I find some I'll get them re-arched by a place like Eaton Detroit Spring and restore them.

Any good repros out there ?

Since the "Rear Suspension, all Components" section has 14 Originality and 14 Condition points, what kind of point hit would I have if I went with the current springs ?

The photos I have seem for this 375438 Rear Leaf Springs were both dated 28E0 for 28th day of 1960. E for Eaton and 0 for 1960 for "January 28, 1960". Do the dates vary much within a month ? Could Eaton have been just making a couple production runs a month ?

On original cars how close did the dates on the leaf springs tend to be to the car's production date ?

I'll try to help out but by no mrans an expert on the subject. There is no source for original springs. They show up on E-Bay once in a while and at some of the swap meets. Search the archives for articles by John Hickley about Eaton redoing springs, pretty exspensive but done to original specs. Good repos? matter of opinion. If yours are letting the car ride at original height then they are probably as good as anyones. If not again a search of the archives should produce several suggestions. As for the dates, I'm not sure if the number of runs is discussed in the archive articles, but it is my understanding they were not done too often, maybe every 6 months. Hope this helps.

        Mark,

I am restoring a 1960. Just got my springs back from Eaton. They re-arched them. Mine are original as far as I can tell. I will check the dates when I get time.

Try Grossmueller's for original springs and other original parts. They have come through for me over the years.

My springs have date of 205E9. I assume this is July 24, 1959. Per my car serial number, the car was assembled mid November 1959.
