    69 Spark Plug Shields

I have a 69 350/350 that I am slowly restoring. Car has most of original parts with only the driver rear shield still installed. The shield has a L stamped on the tab above the bolt hole. It has a reinforcing rib that extends to the top of the bend. The bend is smooth. The is also a U inside of a circle stamped on the top surface. Finish looks to be galvanized. Does anyone have an original 69 that can confirm that this type shield is correct? The build date is October 1969. I would appreciate any responses.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It sounds correct but photos would be needed to confirm that.

I don't think any of these shields were ever galvanized but I would not rule it out completely. All that I have ever seen were zinc plated.

      Steve,

I didn't see this Thread back in November when you posted it. I had a '69 (350/350) for eleven years, my first Corvette.

I'm working on a '67 now, and of the four spark plug boot heat shields that were on the car, only two have the "U" inside a circle stamped on the top, just before the downward bend (no "L" near the bolt hole, reinforcing rib continues for entire length including the bend). The "U" stamp is on both GM #3815084 shields only. Same part number for '67 and '69:

1967 AIM, 6-B3, Item 15, used for Left Front & Right Rear
      1969 AIM, 6-B6, Item 19, LF & RR

My other two shields (GM #3817657) do NOT have the "U" inside a circle stamping or logo:
1967 AIM, 6-B3, Item 16, Right Front & Left Rear
      1969 AIM, 6-B6, Item 17, RF & LR

I don't know for sure which (if any, or all) of mine are original, only that no spark plug heat shields are listed in the extensive receipt file going back to February 1974.
