    Good battery charger

I have the Battery Minder Plus for keeping on the Corvette battery at all times. I am looking for another charger, for fast charging a dead battery. I have a CarQuest 10 amp charger. It has two idiot lights, charging and fully charged. My wife had left the interior lights on all night on her minivan. So I put the charger on the battery most of the day. It indicated that it was charging the whole time. When I went to start it, I got nothing. I think I made a bad choice on where I hooked up the ground. I don't think the charger was delivering any current to the battery. I would like to buy a battery charger with a built in ammeter. Can anyone recommend a better mouse trap?

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Joe:

Sometimes when we get dead cars here in the showroom, I need to pop the door open on them when I begin charging. That gets the dome lights on and gets the charge going. Seems putting the charger on a completely dead battery will sometimes produce the results you experienced. Of course, a proper connection is crucial.

Schumacher makes good chargers. They have two series, one for the professional shop such as dealerships and one for the average user. I just purchase one as I did not have one that had 6V capability. Need a charger for my new 'round town vehicle

'49 Cornbinder one ton long bed PU. Montana truck with NO rust other than surface rust. Been hunting something different than every one else has, Ford, Chev, etc. Stumbled on it on eflea. Doing brakes, carb, and fuel pump to make it a reliable driver.

I knew it would be some kind of truck. Papa Smurf loves trucks as much, maybe more than Corvettes.

                  From an International site....................

It actually goes all the way back to when Cyrus McCormick invented the first successful reaper. In Chicago in the late 1800's McCormick improved on his equipment to bind twine, which was commonly used in corn fields. It was one of their most successful pieces of agricultural equipment and formed the basis of the early International Harvester Company in 1902.

The trucks came along shortly thereafter in 1907 with the "Auto Wagon". Light line International Trucks were always primarily targeted to and sold to farmers - this link with their agricultural equipment and use in the field (often for actually binding corn), earned them their nickname "cornbinders" or "binders".

Dick: Mayflower would be a Plymouth could be car or pick up as the Mayflower was the logo. really a net chrome hood logo/emblem.

International pick ups rode and drove like cornbinders with steel wheels. You have a huge mission to get that machine to respectability,IMO.

Lake Forest is not truck country, unless you count Escalades and Cayennes and Range Rovers as trucks.

On the other hand I can remember the Harvester twine plant. It was the last part of the Harvester complex to close. It took them years to tear down those buildings. They were built like brick s*&)*(&^s. Site of the Cook County Correctional Facilities now.

I grew up in an IH dealership so I am not in for any surprises. I learned to drive on a '51 one ton when I was about 8-9 years old. Many a cow had to head for the hills when I got out in the pasture practicing my driving My roots go back to day one as my parents lived in the apartment over the dealership.
