    C2 Rear Deck Lid issue

My 66 Roadster rear deck lid sits high in relationship to the rear clip. It does not appear to be a weather-strip issue as there is little apparent compression of the rubber. I cannot detect any bending on the hinges although that appears to be the only way to draw the lid down for a proper fit. There are no shims at the floor mount of the spring assembly that I can detect. Am I missing something or is there an easy fix for this issue?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jerry

Put shims under the front bolts of the lid mount. It will lower the lid at the rear.

      Wayne,

Well that sure is simple! What would be an acceptable shim and where can they be purchased?

      Thanks,

      Jerry

You will see factory shims occasionally. What I have seen is a U shaped body shim. There could be other styles.

          Jerry,

U shape shim is typical....won't take much thickness w/shim at front bolt to make a difference where lid meets deck.

What are the rough dimentions of the shims? I may have some around here of various sizes from other GM rebuilds..

            Thanks again,

            Jerry

              Wayne,

My 67 deck lid sits up slightly in the rear and I always thought it was the later GM weatherstrip installed in the 80's.

Can you comment on the GM rubber, I am not sure if I should try to shim or remove the weatherstrip first to see if it sits flat.

Would think fitting the shim would be the 1st choice.....then possibly the w/s dependent on results.

                  Jerry -

Corvette Central sells a set of curved/slotted half-shims for that deck lid shim application - their #541175.

                    Thanks John,

I see the description is for the C1's, were they also used in the C2

                      Jerry -

They work fine for either application - same bolt size.

Actually, use our shims listed as part # 242033 for 1963-67.
