A great Cubbie. I've still got one of his cards around here somewhere.

Santos, Becker, Kissinger(?) and Banks. I remember them well. Always in the lead at All Star break and then to the cellar. Still a Cubie and Bear's fan.

As a lifelong Cub fan, it was very sad to hear about Ron Santo passing. I'm sure that he will get into the HOF now that he's gone which BS because he should have been voted in years ago.

It can be hard to be a Cub fan - even living in the midwest. Ron was a class act and a credit to Major League Baseball. RIP, Don H.

Shame. As he was up Number of time to the HOF. They failed to put him in. Sad he never heard you're going into the Hall. RIP

We have been to Arizona a couple times for spring training and met Ron. Real GENUINE guy. As we know he wore his emotions on his sleeve no matter if he was talking about his Cubbies or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Ronnie was passionate about them both, he probably did more than anyone to raise awareness to childhood diabetes. As far as the HOF someone on another blog made the comment "If Pete Rose is being kept OUT of the Hall of Fame for what he did off the field then Ron Santo should be put IN the Hall of Fame for what he did off the field." I totally agree. Sadly, with his passing the Veteran Committee which is Ron's last hope of making the HOF may very well now vote him in. Ron's passing may actually open the committee's eyes and perhaps other deserving players will make it before they die.

Being a former long time Chicago area resident, I must admit I was a White Sox fan and considered the Cubs and their fans a bunch of sore loosing choking snobs, but they had some great individual players who suffered through the teams misery with class - Ron was one of them.

By chance was he one of their TV color commentators, or am I confusing him with someone else?

Stuart, Ron was a color commentator on radio.

Ron, along with Ernie Banks were the class of the Cubs!
