1962- Does the tach needle just pull off?

    Hello,

Does the tach needle just pull off of the pin it is attached to?? Is there a trick to getting it off?

I see something about prying it off with screwdrivers, and tried it gently, but did not want to force/break anything before I asked the question.

    Thanks,

    Tony

    Tony,

The pointer should be turned counterclockwise to the stop and gently turned past the stop. It will pop right off!

      Joe,

I knew that was how you did it for 63 and later vetts, but did not think that that worked for 62's.

I did gently try that and it did not work. I was afraid to twist too hard and break something. Do you need to twist it hard?

      Thanks,

      Tony

        Tony,

Well if you just have to get it off that's the only way unless you have a jewelers puller which you may be able to borrow from a friend.

I've pulled thousands and can't remember the last time I broke a shaft or twisted one off in the pointer.

If you unscrew the cable and remove the frame/face/etc. from the housing you can hold the shaft with a pair of pliers.

If something breaks it can be fixed.

          Thanks Joe.

I do have it completely disassembled and just did not want to force it or pull too hard and break something.

I will pull a litte harder.
