    Value opinion of 72 LT1

Seller is asking $55K. This car is on Craig's list in Washington. A friend of mine is asking My thoughts on it and I told him I would ask the NCRS Technical discussion board for there opinion. He has not seen the car in person, but would like some feed back.
The first thing I noticed was it is advertised having a M21 tranny. LT1's w/AC only came with a M20 tranny. Also the a/c compressor looks like it has been worked on - at least painted (no Harrison label)

    Your thoughts will be appreciated

Follow the links to the car and pictures:

    Hi Jerry-

I live in Seattle and believe I saw this car a year ago at an all-Corvette show sponsored at the XXX drive-in in Issaquah, WA. If it's the same car, it is nice. I own a '70 LT1 Coupe, so I'm fairly familiar with chrome snouted sharks.

I didn't scrutinize the car numbers-wise, but as for general appearance, I'd say it's an 8.5 out of 10 with just light wear and niggling details. I do recall hearing the owner say the paint job cost $25k... so it's probably the same one. Pretty car. Cool color.

Jerome the transmission would depend on what rear end ratio the car had and if the original buyer optioned for the M-21. The price is a very hard subject to come up with just on photos.
If it is an original 72 LT-1 with A/C that add to the base price but it is also a coupe.
For NCRS standards the paint is way over the top.
The door is missing the blue certification label other items are just to hard to see.
The engine compartment is done to NCCC standards everything is painted black then there is some sort of coating applied to many accessories smog alternator etc.
Most if not all chrome items are after market reproductions.
Missing correct radiator cap radiator cross support not typical factory.
Missing hoses for the EVAP system radiator over flow.
      Valve covers reversed.
Master Cylinder does not look typical.
      A/C converted to 134A.
Vacuum motors for headlights and wiper door look painted not plated.

That is just a quick look at the photos and there maybe many other items that I missed and also out of view.

So depending on what your friend wants to do with this car NCRS or show car 55K still seem high in this economy and market. But as always the car has to be viewed in person and document all accessories for dates, number and VIN match. That's my take others may have a different point of view.

Jerry, tell you friend to check the usual "sales" web sites to get an idea of the market. I agree with Paul, $55k seems high.

I agree $55K seems High unless it is a true clean unrestored car. I really believe the car has had some, if not significant, work done to it. In addition to what Paul O. mentioned I am still of the mined set that the air conditioned option 72 LT1 was only available with M20 tranny.

Anybody else got an opinions and/or thoughts.

looks like vac cans painted to look better in owners eyes, compressor looks like a decal has been painted over and if he paid 25k for paint he got bent over royally in my opinion, it looks like a typical base coat/clearcoat paint job to me, no better than my 03 zo6 and certainly not as good as my 67, my 2 cents and oh, overpriced
