    Gas vent nipple

I have the vent nipple and hose from C.C. for my 58 and I am trying to install it correctly. Per the assembly diagrams I have seen, the nipple is inserted into the downside corner of the fuel filler compartment just back of center under the filler neck. The nipple is not notched to fit flush against the 90 degree angle created by the fiberglass of the filler compartment. The nipple ends are perfectly round. I hope my description isn't too confusing...

My question is: Is the nipple inserted into the bottom corner and then notched out flush?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Assuming it's like the '57, yes, and it should angle slightly towards the front to align the hose with the front of the wheel well where the hose exits.

Thanks Rod. I'm still a little confused on how the nipple is cut. Is the curled back lip on the nipple cut and then the nipple/hose/grommet inserted and then the nipple notched out?

Or. is the lip left intact and then the nipple notched out after insertion? The drawings I have seen show a notched out nipple with no lip???

I just want to get this right because I already drilled an incorrect hole in the filler area that has to be repaired and repainted...hate to have to do it again.

        Jim -

Photo below shows what I believe to be a typical '58-'60 fuel filler opening with the drain nipple in place.

John's picture is just what my 57 looked like. I had to remove mine and reinstall it due to excessive resin bonding agent on the end where the hose attaches, probably never had the hose because it wouldn't fit. I think the installation was done from the back side so I'd guess install it with the lip intact to seat against the back of the fuel panel then notch the tube to fit the front side contour.

Thank you Jonh and Rod. A little fiberglass repair, some paint and I am back in business.
