C4 Headlight gear replacement

I replaced the very brittle and broken gears in the headlight motor for my 88 with new OEM gears. The installation was straight forward but when turing the lights on the passenger side does not open. The motor and worm gear are turning fine though, gear is installed in its proper location. Do the internal gears need to be oriented a specific way relative to the worm gear? Not sure what I missed?

Were the bushings bad?

yup, replaced the bushings during the job, they were shot.
Thanks for the link- they mention setting the linkage back to "closed" prior to installing. Motor and worm gear work and engage the gear, nothing catches but it does not cycle correctly. I think may be the issue, I will give this a try and hope that is all it is.
